Sample of my essay: Individualising justice would only be feasible if the individuals themselves are as sophisticated as the society that encompasses them. The key term ‘sophisticated’ has room for interpretation - one might argue that it refers to a society with more refined, well-mannered people whilst another might argue that the term refers to the greater institutions and mechanisms in society, such as an increasingly efficient justice system. In this case, it is more applicable to believe that ‘sophisticated’ refers to the individuals themselves rather than society’s systems. ‘Individualised justice’ ensures that factors such as an individual’s circumstance and background are taken into account before punishments are meted out, meaning that rather than applying rules to fit all, ‘individualised justice’ considers…
